Humber College Students Plan Stranger Things Themed Escape Room Charity Event
TORONTO, ON: Humber College students are planning a major charity event for their class in Event Management. The event is called “Escape the Upside Down” happening in Toronto, Ontario at DEVHUB on April 8th, 2019 between 7 pm-10 pm. This event is an escape room event where teams are competing to complete a 30-minute escape room in the fastest time, themed around the popular Netflix series “Stranger Things”. Guests are also able to enjoy food, drinks, trivia and a chance to win some prizes. This event is raising money for 2 charities, the Missing Children’s Society of Canada and the Humber College Scholarship Fund.
Escape the Upside Down has everyone on social media talking. Recently, BlogTo shared a post about this event making it one of their Top Picks with over 400 people interested in attending. “We are extremely happy with the amount of reach we are getting for this event. The more people that are exposed to it, the more money and awareness we are able to raise for our charities,” Shannon Crooks, Escape the Upside Down Marketing Director.
There are two types of tickets you are able to purchase for this event; the first is $30 and includes admission, an escape room, food and a drink ticket, and second is $20 and includes admission, food and drink ticket.
Escape the Upside Down: Escape the Upside down is a team of 8 post-graduate students in the Event Management Program at Humber College. These 8 professional women have coordinated this event from theme through execution including everything from décor, catering, marketing and sponsorship.
Humber College Scholarship Fund: The Humber College Scholarship Fund monetary award is given to two students (one per session) that have continuously, throughout the year and during the Capstone project, demonstrated professionalism, work ethics, leadership and teamwork. The students are faculty nominated and selected at the end of the academic year. Nominated individuals are announced in May-June and awards are given during the Business School Award ceremony in February, the year after.
Missing Children Society of Canada: Established in 1986, Missing Children Society of Canada has assisted police and families in active and ongoing searches for missing children by launching their unique and comprehensive programs, helping to bring answers and returning missing children to their families. Background Information
1. Who are the producers of the event?
A: Producers are all post-graduate event management students at Humber College Lakeshore campus.
2. Will students work individually or in a group for Capstone Project? How many students are in one Capstone project group?
A: Students will work in a group of 7-8 for the Capstone project. However, during the working process, they are also expected to have the ability of working independently where they can demonstrate their personal skills like project management, effective communication skills, professional behaviour, etc.
3. When do students start working on Capstone project?
A: Normally, students will begin their Capstone project in January, when the second semester begins. There will be weekly meetings as the event date approaches. Students and instructors will have more meetings between classes to ensure everyone is on the same page and students are not behind schedule.
4. Is this Capstone project compulsory?
A: Yes, in order to graduate from this program, students are not only required to do
an internship in the event field, but also to participate in the Capstone project.
5. Is there any financial support for students to conduct this project?
A: Each group will be provided with a loan of $1,500 at the beginning of the process. However, they can also get additional financial support from sponsors.
6.What charities do you work with for this event?
A: For this event, we are working with two charities which are the Humber College Scholarship Fund and Missing Children Society of Canada.
